18 additional judges sworn in

Eighteen additional judges, who were appointed to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court for two years on Wednesday, were sworn in on Thursday afternoon.

Chief justice Syed Mahmud Hossain administered the oath at the Supreme Court Judges' Lounge at 3:00pm.

The 18 HC additional judges are Md Abu Ahmed Jamadar, International Crimes Tribunal member; Md Mostafizur Rahman, additional secretary to the law and justice division; Fatema Najib, Narsingdi district and sessions judge; Md Quamrul Hossain Mollah, metropolitan sessions judge of Dhaka; SM Kuddus Zaman, district and sessions judge of Dhaka; Md Atoar Rahman, divisional special judge of Dhaka; deputy attorneys general Khijir Hayat, Shashanka Shekhar Sarker, SM Moniruzzaman, Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir and Khondakar Diliruzzaman; and Supreme Court lawyers SM Abdul Mobin, Mohammad Ali, Mahiuddin Shamim, Md Reaz Uddin Khan, Md Khairul Alam, Ahmed Rasel and KM Hafizul Alam.

Earlier on Wednesday, the law ministry published a gazette notification on their appointment.

It said the president made the appointment exercising his power under section 98 of the constitution.
