Two accused in a case filed over the lynching of Taslima Begum Renu in city’s Badda area reportedly confessed to their involvement in the incident before a Dhaka court on Friday, reports news agency UNB.

The court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mohammad Millat Hossain recorded the statements of Ibrahim Hossain Hridoy and Riya and sent them to jail, said the case’s investigation officer and Badda police station inspector Abdur Razzak.

The inspector prayed to the court for taking their confessional statements.

Police arrested Ibrahim on 23 July and took him on a five-day remand for interrogation on 24 July while Riya was arrested from Badda area in the city on 25 July.

Three other accused -- Bachchu, Bappi and Shahin -- were put on a four-day remand each in the case on 22 July.

Besides, Zafar, another accused in the case, gave his confessional statement to the court under section 164 admitting his involvement with the incident.

On 20 July, Renu was beaten to death over a child-lifting rumour at Uttar Badda in Dhaka.

Victim's family members claimed that she went to the area to look for a suitable school for her daughter but fell victim to a mob beat.
