2 cops suspended for helping Nepali casino employees flee
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has suspended two policemen on charge of helping Nepali nationals, who were working at a casino, flee from their rented apartment in the city Segunbagicha area.
The action was taken against Dipankar Chakma, a constable of Ramna police station, and Mithu, an assistant sub-inspector of DMP, he said while exchanging views with the leaders of Crime Reporters' Association of Bangladesh (CRAB).
Surveillance camera footage shows three policemen entering the building just before 15 Nepali nationals hurriedly left the apartment ahead of the maiden raid on casinos in the capital on 18 September.
The DMP chief said the accused policemen were identified from the video footage.
Responding to a query, he said investigation is underway to identify those who are involved in casino business. "We'll see its outcome very soon."
