Identity of 3 of 9 ‘militants’ disclosed

Police on Wednesday said they have identified three of the nine suspected militants killed in an operation by a joint security force at a building in the city’s Kalyanpur area on Tuesday.

One of them was identified as Sejat Rauf Orko alias Morocco, a BBA student of North South University, son of Touhid Rauf of Bashundhara residential area in Dhaka.

Orko was also a friend of Nibras, who was identified as one of the five Holey Artisan Bakery attackers.

Another deceased was identified as Sabbirul Hoque alias Sabbir, son of Azizul Hoque and resident of Burangchhara Fulgazi in Anwara upazila of Chittagong district.

He lived with his family at Bakalia in Chittagong city.

The other deceased is Jubayer Hossain, 20, son of Abdul Kaiyum and Ayera Begum, residents of West Maizdi in Sudharam upazila of Noakhali district, said Noakhali police superintendent Ilias Sharif, reports news agency UNB.

Jubayer was a second-year honours student of Noakhali Government College.

The police super said Jubayer who had remained traceless since May was one of the five people from Noakhali district on the missing list prepared by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Police on special suspicion about Jubayer’s militant link sent information about him to the Police Headquarters in Dhaka, the police supper added.

On Wednesday morning, Jubayer’s father identified his son from the pictures of the killed militants posted by the DMP on its Face Book page after the Kalyanpur ‘Storm 26’ operation.

However, Jubayer’s parents will be taken to Dhaka for further identification, said SP Sharif.
