29 diagnosed with anthrax in Sirajganj
At least 29 people have been infected with anthrax in Ullapara and Shahjadpur upazilas of Sirajgannj.
Of them, 20 have been diagnosed with the disease at Char Nandigati village in Ullapara while the rest at Koijuri village in Shahjadpur, said health officials.
Ullapara health and family planning officer doctor Sukumar Sur Roy said 20 residents of the Char Nandigati village have fallen ill after eating meat of a sick cow on August 16.
District sanitary inspector Mohammad Ali Jinnah said the nine inhabitants of the Koijuri village have been attacked by anthrax after taking goat meat on August 23.
Confirming the anthrax infection, civil surgeon of the district doctor Shamsuddin said the infected people were being provided with treatment at their respective houses.
He also said there is nothing to be panicked in this regard.
