4 accused snatched from police custody, 12 cops hurt

Miscreants snatched four accused of a murder case from police custody injuring at least 12 policemen at Banshgari police camp in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Friday, reports UNB.

Additional police super of Narsingdi Habibur Rahman said a team of Banshgari police camp arrested the four accused – Rup Miah, Azizul, Sab Miah and Habibur – of a murder case from Banshbari village around 4:00pm and took them to the police camp.

As soon as the news of the four people's arrest spread, the relatives of the accused along with the supporters of local Awami League leader Shahed Sarkar swooped on the police outpost and exploded bombs inside the camp.

Three fingers of Nayek Hanif were blown off of his foot, the additional police super added.

The attackers also injured 11 other policemen, including constables Hamid and Hefzur, by chopping and beating them with lethal weapons and sticks.

On information, a police team, led by Belal Hossain, assistant police super of the Raipura circle, brought the situation under control and rescued the injured policemen.

Critically injured Hanif, Hamid and Hefzur were admitted to sadar Hospital, said Habibur Rahman.

Rest of the injured was taken to Raipura Upazila Health Complex.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Subash Chandra Bishwas and police super Amena Begum visited the spot.
