40 km tailback on Bangabandhu Bridge-Dhaka highway
Eid goers have been stuck in a 40 km traffic jam on Bangabandhu Bridge-Dhaka highway on Tuesday, just a day ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Authorities concerned said excessive number of vehicles and slow vehicular movement have caused the tailback.
The tailback was observed from the West end of Bangabandhu Bridge to Karatia in Tangail.
Witnesses said some of the suffering passengers staged sporadic protests in the traffic jam in the morning.
Tangail additional police superintendent Shafiqul Islam said vehicles hardly can move from Bangabandhu Bridge to Sirajganj as there are so many vehicles on the highway.
“A total of 35,000 vehicles have moved along the highway in the last 24 hours,” Shafiqul said.
