5 indicted in Sholakia attack case

Police on Wednesday pressed charges against five alleged activists of banned terrorist outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) for the militant attack near Sholakia Eidgah in 2016 that left four people dead, reports UNB.

Kishoreganj sadar police station inspector (investigation) Arifur Rahman submitted a charge-sheet before the chief judicial magistrate court in the afternoon, said Mashruf Rahman, superintendent of Kishorganj police at a press briefing.

The indicted are -- Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan, 60, Anwar Hossain, 33, Abdus Sabur Khan alias Sohel Mahmud, 33, Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi, 32, and Jahidul Haque Tanim, 24.

All of them are now behind the bars, he added.

The SP said police found the involvement of 24 JMB militants in the attack but made five of them accused as rest 19 were killed during raids.

On 7 July 2016, the Eid-ul-Fitr day, at least four people, including two policemen, were killed and 12 others injured in a bomb attack coupled with an exchange of gunfire after terrorists attacked a temporary police check-post near Sholakia Eidgah in sadar upazila.
