550 Shibir men sued over RUET clashes

Four cases have been filed against some 550 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir in connection with Thursday’s clashes between police and them at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) ONFRIDAY.

Matihar police Sub-inspector Masud Rana filed two cases against 31 named and 250 unidentified Shibir men on Thursday night for attacking the law enforcers and obstructing them from performing duties, said Matihar police officer-in-charge Alamgir Hossain.

Rashjahi University unit Shibir president Ashraful Alam and RUET unit president Hasan Ahmed were among the accused.

The two other cases were filed by SI Wahidur Rahman of the police station against 21 identified Shibir men and 250 unidentified ones for exploding crude bombs and launching attack on police during the clashes, said the OC.

Twelve Shibir activists who were arrested in connection with the incident had been shown arrested in the two cases, added the OC.

Shibir activists swooped on Bangladesh Chhatra League men at Selim Hall at about 4:30pm on Thursday.

Shibir men locked into clashes with the law enforcers, leaving 15 people injured.

RUET was declared closed until October 12 following the incident.
