The High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the authorities concerned, asking it to explain why the reorganisation of the Manarat International University Board of Trustees should not be declared illegal, reports news agency UNB.

A bench of justice Zafar Ahmed and justice Md. Akhtaruzzaman issued the notice while hearing a writ petition, said Jamiul Haque Faisal, the lawyer for the petitioner.

The secretary to the education ministry and others concerned were asked to respond to the notice within four weeks, he added.

The petition was filed by professor AKM Fazlul Haque, former member of the Board of Trustees, challenging the validity of its reorganisation.

Earlier, on 8 September, President Abdul Hamid, the chancellor of the university, ordered the reorganisation of the 13-member board, with Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Atiqul Islam in the chair.
