6 suspected Huji operatives held in Dhaka
Detectives arrested six people for their suspected link to Islamist militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami from the city’s Uttara and old part of Dhaka on Tuesday.
Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (South division) of police conducted a drive at Siraj ud-Daulah Park in Jindabahar area of old town of Dhaka city in the evening and arrested Sazzadul alias Mukti, a teacher of Lahini Madhyamik School, Imam Bashar, a resident of Kushtia Sadar upazila, and Mezbah alias Prodip, a driver of Mirpur upazila fire station and Ashraf, a resident of Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia, while they were holding a clandestine meeting there, said Monirul Islam, additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Their other associates managed to flee the scene.
Based on the information of the arrestees, the DB conducted another drive in front of Mascot Plaza in the city’s Uttara at night and arrested Palash, a resident of sector 7, and Azizur Babu, a resident of sector 3 of the area.
The law enforcers also recovered huge jihadi (religious uprising) books, laptops, pen drives and handwriting papers from their possession.
Details of the arrests were awaited.
