63 die with fever, cold, respiratory problems in 10 days

At least 11 more people, including a woman, died with fever, cold, cough and respiratory problems in 10 districts of the country from Sunday to Monday morning.

Samples were collected from their bodies to test whether they were suffering from coronavirus disease.

According to a Prothom Alo calculation, at least 63 people died with fever, cold, cough and respiratory problems in the country in the last 10 days, from 28 March to 6 April.

In Sirajganj, a 18-year-old youth died with fever, sore throat and diarrhoea in Madhainagar union of Tarash upazila on Monday. He came from Dhaka on 1 April.

In Netrokona, a youth, 21, suffering from fever and cough, died in Kendua municipality area. Kendua upazila executive officer Al Imran Rahul Islam and Kendua police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Rasheduzzaman said the rickshaw-puller youth was suffering from fever and cough for the last few days.

In Chattogram, a 71-year-old freedom fighter from Sitakunda died in isolation at General Hospital of the port city on Monday morning. Sitakunda health and family planning officer Nur Uddin said the freedom fighter was suffering from respiratory problems for long.

A 24-year-old youth, who was kept in isolation ward of Chattogram Medical College Hospital breathed his last on Sunday. Hospital sources said the youth would work at a tea stall. He was taken to the hospital with respiratory problems on Sunday evening.

In Gaibandha, a 32-year-old mason died of fever and respiratory problems in Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon. Gaibandha sadar upazila health and family planning officer Golam Mostafa said the man was a mason in Dhaka. He returned home with fever and cough on 25 March. He had been suffering from respiratory problem.

In Faridpur, a 70-year-old fisherman, who was kept at the isolation unit of Faridpur Medical College Hospital, died on Monday morning. The hospital’s director Saifur Rahman said the man was admitted with respiratory problems on 2 April.

In Kishoreganj, a man, 45, died of fever in Karimganj on Sunday. Civil surgeon Mujibur Rahman said the man may have died of heart attack. Local people said the man returned to his village home from Dhaka around a week ago. He was suffering from fever and cough, they said.

In Gazipur, a 35-year-old woman suffering from respiratory problems passed away in Kapasia on Monday. Kapasia upazila health and family planning officer Abdus Salam said the woman was suffering from respiratory problems for long but she was not a patient of fever and cough.

It seems she was not infected by coronavirus, Abdus Salam added.

In Tangail, a 55-year-old lawyer, breathed his last at Gopalpur upazila health complex on Monday morning. Gopalpur upazila health and family planning officer Alim Al Razi said the man was suffering from heart diseases and respiratory problems. He was taken to the upazila health complex in the morning but the physicians found him dead.

In Barisal, a 50-year-old Krishi Bank employee on Monday died at the special unit opened at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for treating the COVID-19 patients. He was from Barisal sadar upazila.

Hospital sources said the man was taken to the emergency department in the afternoon and died after a few while. The hospital’s director Md Bakir Hossain said the man was suffering from fever and cough.

Besides, a man, 32, from Pangsha, Rajbari suffering from fever, cough and diarrhoea, died at the emergency department of Kushtia general hospital. Local people said the man was a truck driver. He returned home a few days back.

Rajbari civil surgeon Md Nurul Islam said the deceased had COVID-19 symptoms.

Meanwhile, the numbers of coronavirus deaths and infections kept rising in Bangladesh with five new deaths and 41 new infections confirmed in the past 24 hours until 2:00pm on Tuesday.

Director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), Meerjady Sabrina, said this at a regular online briefing in the afternoon.
