Owners propose to double the launch fare

The owners of launches proposed to double the launch fare – a decision came hours after the increase of fares of long-haul and city buses in line with the hike of fuel oil price.

They proposed to charge Tk 4.60 in place of Tk 2.30 per kilometre (km) for the first 100km and Tk 4 instead of current fare Tk 2 per km after the first 100km.

The president of Bangladesh Inland Waterways (passenger carriers) Association (BIWA) Mahbub Uddin Ahmed on Sunday placed the re-fixed fares to the chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).

If the proposal is approved, the launch fare will be increased to Tk 460 from Tk 230 per 100km.
