7 more Bangladeshis detained in Malaysia
Seven Bangladeshi nationals were detained in Malaysian town Nilai on Sunday, reports The Sun Daily.
The Malaysian media outlet said ‘the immigration department of Malaysia detained seven Bangladeshis among 68 foreigners in an operation at the Nilai 3 Commercial Centre’ yesterday (Sunday).
Quoting immigration director general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud, The Sun Daily said, “Those detained including a woman comprised 51 Pakistanis, Myanmar nationals (9), Bangladeshi (7) and a Cambodian.”
“In the operation that began at 11:00am, 39 premises were inspected and a total of 298 foreign nationals were screened,” he was also quoted to have said.
Earlier a Prothom Alo report said, “Fear has spread among Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia, following a sudden crackdown by the authorities on illegal migrants there, despite the declaration of general amnesty. Many of the workers are going into hiding to avoid arrest.”
Malaysia’s The Star Online on Saturday quoted the Malaysian authorities as saying that 39 foreign workers, including 12 from Bangladesh, were caught during a raid on seven vegetable and flower plantations in Cameron Highland. They have been detained for working without valid documents.
