87 DU students among 125 charged in question paper leak
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police has pressed charged against 125 people including 87 students of Dhaka University over its admission test’s question paper leak in October 2017.
After more than one and half years of investigations into the leak, the CID chief, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, revealed the list of the accused persons at a press conference on Thursday.
Investigations against a few others is going on,the CID chief added. Once their names and addresses are confirmed, a supplementary charge sheet will be brought against them too.
The CID head said the Organised Crime Unit’s special police superintendent Molla Nazrul Islam led the probe team.
The detectives successfully busted the country’s biggest gang behind question paper leak and digital forgery, he added.
“A total of 47 people, including the mastermind, were arrested. Of them, 46 people have already given their confessional statements in connection with the matter,” he added.
The leak took place on 19 October 2017 midnight. The CID then conducted a drive in two student dormitories of Dhaka University and arrested two students -- Mamun and Rana.
As per Rana and Mamun’s statements, one of the admission test candidates Rafi was arrested from the examination hall.
Later, a case was filed with the Shahbagh police station on 20 October 2017.
In 2018, the question paper of Dhaka University D Unit admission test was also leaked in the early hours of 13 October.
The authorities then retook the examination.
