ACC not toothless: Chairman

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman Iqbal Mahmud on Monday said the graft body is not toothless, rather its potential remains untapped.
The ACC chief said this while addressing an award distribution ceremony at the ACC head office in the afternoon.
“Many say there is a problem within ACC. I don’t disagree with them. I must drive out the bad, but I seek media’s cooperation in doing so,” Iqbal observed.
Mahmud said there are allegations that the ACC gives a clean chit to the accused in most of the graft cases. “But I can assure you if the Commission finds enough evidence against graft suspects, charge-sheets will be submitted against them,” he added.
Iqbal Mahmud earlier presented ACC Media Award to five journalists for outstanding reporting on anti-corruption issues.
Badruduza Babu of Masranga Television, Mursalin Haque of Channel 24, Fakhrul Islam of Rtv received the award in the electronic media category while Hokikat Jahan Hoki of Daily Samakal, and Noor Ahmad of Daily Sylheter Dak got the award in print media category.
