Prime minister's ICT affairs adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy said on Monday that ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) would bag more votes in the upcoming 11th parliamentary polls compared to the 9th parliamentary polls.

Joy, also the son of prime minister and AL president Sheikh Hasina, was briefing newsmen at AL president’s Dhanmondi office after holding a meeting with party’s secretaries and leaders of AL’s affiliated bodies.

“I’m here to tell you good news. I’ve conducted a survey on the next general elections. I want to inform the party that the survey shows the AL will secure more votes if the elections are held today. AL will get a landslide victory, in comparison with the 2008 general elections,” said Joy.

Prime minister’s son claimed, “We’ve got this result in a scientifically-conducted survey. AL has nothing to fear about. I’m here to give that message.”

In response to a question, Joy said he wouldn’t contest the next polls. “My objective is to keep the party in power. I’ve no greed for being a MP and a minister. It can be looked into later. How can I keep the party in power – this is my target.”

Asked if he has any certain plan to bring AL to power again, Joy said, “AL must come to power in the next elections. The way the AL has earned people’s love and trust, there is no political party in the country which can defeat it.

“This is absolutely clear in my survey. I’ve no worry about this,” he added.

When a questioner asked which organisation conducted the survey, Joy didn’t disclose the name of the organisation saying, “We conduct this survey every year. We’ve a company which conduct the survey. This is my subject. I’ve studied this and worked on this. I believe that my survey is most accurate.”

Sajeeb Wazed called on AL party men to remain vigilant about any conspiracy on the next general elections, alleging that conspiracies are on.
