Amjad Khan Chy passes away
Major Gen (retd) Amjad Khan Chowdhury, one of the pioneers of agro-processing industry in Bangladesh and CEO of Pran-RFL Group, died of old age complications. He was 76.
An announcement from his office said he breathed his last at the Duke Medical College of North Carolina, the USA, at 7:15pm (Bangladesh time) on Wednesday. He had been undergoing treatment there for cardiac complications and diabetes for about a month.
He left behind his wife, two sons - Ajhar Khan Chowdhury and Ahsan Khan Chowdhury - and two daughters - Sera Haque and Uzma Chowdhury - and numerous friends and admirers to mourn his death.
Employees of Pran-RFL expressed shock at the demise of Amjad Khan Chowdhury.
Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, also the deputy managing director of PRAN-RFL Group, sought dua from all for the salvation of the departed soul of his father.
The body would be brought back to the country from the USA and Amjad Khan Chowdhury would be buried at Banani Military Graveyard.
Born in Natore on 10 November 1939, Amjad Khan Chowdhury joined the erstwhile Pakistan army in 1956 and retired from Bangladesh army in 1981. He then started doing business.
He is a former president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), founder-president of Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) and Bangladesh Agro-Processors’ Association (BAPA).
