'BCL man' vandalises bus amid student demonstration
An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was caught red handed while vandalising a bus in disguise of a demonstrating student at the SAARC Fountain intersection in the capital on Wednesday, the third day of the student movement for safety on the roads.
The perpetrator, Nayeem Ahmed Nayeem, is an activist of Brindaban Government College, Habiganj unit of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League’s student wing.
The students who boarded a bus of Swadhin Paribahan city bus service from Shahbag area, stopped the vehicle at the SAARC Fountain intersection. They were checking the driving licence of the 13/14-year-old driver of the bus around 11:00am.
The teenage driver of the Farmgate-bound bus had no driving license and the demonstrating students requested the passengers to get down. Around 200-250 students in uniform surrounded the bus.
Amid this, a young man without uniform started smashing the front windscreen of the bus with a brick. The students stopped him, asking, “Why are you vandalising the bus? Is our movement about vandalising vehicles?” They handed him over to the police.
The Chhatra League activist Nayeem Ahmed Nayeem told this correspondent that he came to Dhaka for on work related to voting in Gazipur though he was a voter of Habiganj.
He said he is a supporter of Habiganj district unit BCL president Saidur Rahman.
Saidur Rahman acknowledged that Shah Nayeem was a member of the unit, but could not give any details about him.
