BNP leader Mir Nasir meets Hefazat chief
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) vice chairman Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin on Friday met the chief of much-talked-about Islam-based group Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, Shah Ahmad Shafi.
The BNP leader met Shah Ahmad Shafi at his office at Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa aka Hathazari madrasa before the Jumma prayers. Hefazat ameer Shah Ahmad Shafi is the director general of the madrasa.
BNP leader’s meet with the Hefazat chief took place at a time when the Islam-based group has inclined towards ruling quarters which has been apparent in Shafi’s recent meeting with prime minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban.
When contacted, Mir Nasir said Hathazari is his ancestral village and he went there just to make a courtesy call with Shah Ahmad Shafi as he “used to visit him occasionally”.
“Islam is a religion of peace. Islam has no relations with militancy. Anti-Islam forces and Jews are presenting distorted version of Islam. Everybody should be aware of this,” Mir Nasir quoted Hefazat amir to have said.
