A Dhaka court on Thursday sent Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Nipun Roy Chowdhury and six other party activists to jail on expiry of their five-day remand in a case filed over a clash at Naya Paltan, reports UNB.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order after inspector of Detective Branch of police Md Quamrul Islam, also investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court.

The BNP men were put on a five-day remand on 16 November.

A day earlier, detectives picked Nipun Roy, also daughter of BNP vice-chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury, up along with noted singer Baby Nazneen from the city's Kakrail area.

However, Baby Nazneen was freed later.

At least 50 people, including 23 policemen, were injured in a clash between BNP leaders and activists and law enforcers in front of the party's Naya Paltan central office on the third day of its nomination-form sale on 14 November.
