BRAC University recalls ‘assaulted’ teacher
The authorities of BRAC University have withdrawn the termination of its law teacher Farhaan Uddin Ahmed, and sent registrar Muhammad Sahool Afzal on ‘long leave’ following weeklong student protests.
The vice-chancellor of the university has also accepted the resignation letters of assistant registrar Mahi Uddin, and senior officer Jabed Rasel.
Issuing a statement, BRAC University informed students about the decisions on Saturday afternoon.
Taking cognizance a complaint, the university formed a probe committee to investigate alleged assault on female students.
The statement also said all classes and examinations would resume from tomorrow, Sunday.
The students of BRAC University were staging demonstrations against the university management in their Mohakhali main campus, and boycotting all classes and exams over the sacking and ‘assaulting’ of law teacher Farhaan Uddin.
The agitated students said Farhan Uddin Ahmed, a law teacher recruited on contractual terms, was called to the human resources department on 30 July, and handed documents for the immediate termination of his contract with the university.
When Farhan refused to take the termination papers, several officials of the registrar’s department took away his identity card and attacked him physically, they added.
