BUET students stage demo, announce 7-point demand

The students of BUET have staged demonstrations and announced a seven-point demand, including the arrest and immediate punishement of all accused in the Abrar Fahad murder case.

The students staged protests on campus around 10:00am demanding the highest punishment of the killers. They vowed to continue their protests until their demands are met.

They placed their seven-point demand in front of journalists on the Shaheed Minar premises of the campus. Their demands are:

1. Ensure capital punishment of the killers.

2. Identify the killers within 72 hours, expel them from BUET for life.

3. Dispose the case quickly by shifting it to a tribunal.

4. Explain why BUET vice-chancellor did not show up on the campus even 30 hours after Abrar was murdered.

5. Expel all students who were involved with student harassment in the name of ragging from BUET within 11 October.

6. Remove Sher-e-Bangla Hall provost within 11 October for his complete failure to protect the students.

7. BUET administration must compensate Abrar's family and bear all costs to conduct the case.

Besides, students of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University formed a human chain in front of Dhaka College seeking justice for Abrar Fahad, reports UNB.

Abrar, 21, a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET was pronounced dead around 3:00am on Monday by BUET medical officer Dr Md Mashuk Elahi after he was beaten allegedly by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of the university unit.

BCL is the student wing of ruling Awami League.

Police arrested nine leaders and activists of BCL in connection with the killing of Abrar on Monday and his father filed a case against 19 BCL men with Chawkbazar police station.
