Bangladesh Journalists’ Welfare Trust comes into being

The government on Sunday set up Bangladesh Journalists’ Welfare Trust as per subsection of 3 (1) of the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Act 2014.

The law came into effect on August 25 when a notification in this regard was issued, said a PID handout.

As per the law, the Information Minister will be the chairman of the trust, while the information secretary as its vice-chairman.

Parliament passed the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Bill 2014 on July 1 to ensure the welfare of poor, insolvent, sick and wounded journalists and the family members of deceased journalists.
