Bangladesh needs to keep up its progress, envoys say

Praising Bangladesh’s development in different socioeconomic sectors, three envoys of Nordic countries have said the country needs to keep up its progress.

The envoys also said that the ease of doing business should be ensured to increase foreign investment in the country.

Ambassador of Denmark Winnie Estrup Petersen, ambassador of Norway Sidsel Bleken and ambassador of Sweden Charlotta Schlyter made the remark while paying a courtesy visit to Prothom Alo office at Karwan Bazar on Wednesday.

Welcoming the envoys, Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman talked about various activities of the daily and its associate organisations.

Norway envoy Sidsel Bleken said that Bangladesh has achieved visible development in different socioeconomic sectors since Liberation War.

Bangladesh should keep up the progress in its own interests, the envoy added.

Swedish ambassador Charlotta Schlyter underscored the need for ensuring ease of doing business.

She said they are having dialogue with the government for improving business climate in Bangladesh.

The government made commitments for improving business climate, she added.

Danish ambassador Winnie Estrup Petersen said Bangladesh should put emphasis on eco-friendly businesses for the sake of its future generation.

The envoys also underscored the need for more active participation of women in the political and economic life.

They said that freedom of media and press and freedom of expressions is important to Nordic countries.

People's participation in the political process is important to ensure rule of law, the envoys said.
