Fire fighters have finally brought the Bashundhara City shopping mall fire under control after around ten hours of frantic efforts.

A total of 29 firefighting units brought the blaze under control at 8:50pm, said Fire Service and Civil Defence director general Ali Ahmed Khan on Sunday night.

The fire broke out at a shoe store on level six of the mall at around 11:00 in the morning.

However, at least 70 per cent of 100 shops of the level six were burnt completely or partially, Ali Ahmed Khan added.

According to the mall authorities, Bashundhara City will not open until Wednesday.
