Case filed against MP Mostafizur
The Election Commission (EC) on Friday filed a case against ruling Awami League parliament member (MP) Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury for allegedly assaulting an upazila election officer in Chittagong on Wednesday.
“The case was filed against the MP and a few others. However, nothing more can be said at this moment”, said Chittagong police superintendant AKM Hafiz Akhtar.
Mustafizur was accused of abusing the Banshkhali upazila election officer for not appointing his chosen men during the union parishad polls.
The upazila election officer, Jahidul Islam, said the MP called him at the UNO’s office in the absence of the UNO, and four or five others entered the room and started to beat him shutting the door around 11am.
After the incident, the EC suspended all UP elections under Banshkhali upazila.
