Class-I officers to start service as grade-9 officers

All class-I government officers will join service as grade-9 employees, according to the cabinet's decision.
BCS general education cadres will be gradually upgraded to grade-3, giving 50 per cent of them permanent promotion instead of time scale and selection grades.

The decisions were taken at the cabinet meeting at the finance ministry on Thursday in order to remove anomalies in the 8th national pay scale.
Finance minister AMA Muhith and finance secretary Mahbub Ahmed briefed newsmen about the decisions after the cabinet meeting.

According to the decision, class-I officers will now start their service as grade-9 employees.
Earlier, some of them started out as grade-8 employees and others began their career as grade-9 employees. Such practice often created problems in the administration.

Both cadre and non-cadre class-I officers will now start as grade-9 employees. However, their pay will be fixed with increments, the finance secretary added.

As per earlier practice, 50 per cent BCS general education cadres got grade-4 rank with selection grade and time scale.
Now, 50 per cent of them can be promoted to grade-3 through permanent promotion, the secretary said.

Asked about the demands of public university teachers, the finance minister said they [teachers] have a disagreement over an issue which will be resolved soon through talks.

Teachers of public universities launched a movement to realise their various demands, including keeping their selection grade and time scale in the 8th national pay scale.
