DMC hall closed after BCL infighting
Shaheed Dr Fazle Rabbi Hall of Dhaka Medical College was declared closed for indefinite period on Thursday evening following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) that left 11 people injured.
Campus sources said the followers of dormitory unit BCL president Humayun Kabir Sumon and its general secretary Fahad engaged in an altercation in the afternoon over the joining of some Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal men to the Fahad-led faction of the ruling Awami League’s student wing.
At one stage, both the groups locked into a clash around 4:30pm when a chase and counter chase took place between them, leaving 11 BCL men, mostly from the present-led faction, injured.
The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
After the clash, the Academic Council of the medical college at an emergency meeting decided to close the dormitory for an indefinite period.
The resident students were asked to vacate the hall by 9pm Thursday.
It was also decided at the meeting that the council will sit again on Saturday to take further decision in this regard.
