DNCC finds Aedes larva in 194 locations on Day 5
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Thursday found presence of the larva of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, that acts as the carrier of the dengue virus (as well as other deadly diseases), in 194 houses and establishments during its combing drive aimed at fighting dengue through vector control in 36 original wards under its jurisdiction (excluding 18 added later).
DNCC sources said some 10,738 houses were inspected in the 36 wards during the fifth day of the combing drive today. In each of the 194 cases where the larva was found, stickers were attached near the entrance gate containing the warning: "Ai barite Aedes moshar larva pawa jai" (Aedes mosquito larva found here).
Besides, conditions friendly for the breeding of Aedes aegypti, such as clear, still water were found in some 6,348 houses and establishments on Thursday- these were subsequently destroyed.
Actual larva of Aedes aegypti has so far been found in 1,223 out of 53,232 locations inspected during the first five days of the combing drive that started 25 August. Besides, breeding grounds in 27,483 houses and establishments were destroyed during the period, said DNCC public relation officer ASM Mamun.
