Dhaka's rail link with Sirajganj snapped

Two compartments of a Sirajganj-bound freight train from Ishwardi derailed at Raipur railway station in Sirajganj at about 8:30am on Saturday.
Railway station authorities and local people said that the two compartments of the freight train derailed as the train reached near the outer signal of Raipur Railway Station.
Sirajganj Express, coming from Ishwardi, and a local train, run on Rajshahi-Dhaka route, could not enter Sirajganj because of the derailment, said Sirajganj Bazar Station stationmaster.
Pakshi railway department assistant executive engineer Abdus Sattar on Sunday said that the rail communication system turned poor due to heavy rainfall. Moreover, rail line of that route was not overhauled properly for a long time.
He said the train was supposed to move at 10-kilometer per hour but it was moving faster.
Salvage trains went the spot for rescue operation. The goods were unloaded from the compartments of the freight train. The rail link will resume after the lines are repaired, he added. Rough weather is delaying rescue operation.
