Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the country tomorrow as the new crescent moon of the Arabic month of Shawwal has been sighted, confirms National Moon Sighting Committee.

We extend our heartiest greetings to our readers and well-wishers on this auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Eid Mubarak.

The committee held a meeting on Monday to confirm the sighting of the moon of Shawwal month of the Hijri year 1435.

The meeting was held at the conference room of Islamic foundation.

After a month of fasting the Muslim community of the country welcomed the new crescent moon with happiness and enthusiasm.

The main Eid congregation in the capital will be held at the National Eidgah, adjacent to the premises of the Supreme Court, at 8:30am. Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Maulana Mohammad Salah Uddin will conduct the Eid jamaat.

Five Eid jamaats will be held at the Baitul Muqarram National Mosque - at 7:00am, 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am and the last one at 11:00am.

Some 668 more Eid congregations will be held at different areas in Dhaka city.

Law enforcing agencies including the Police and Rapid Action Battalion will remain on guard to ensure security at Eid congregations.

The government has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr with due respect and in a smooth manner.

National flags will be hoisted at government, autonomous and non-government offices and all military establishments.

National flags and flags inscribed with "Eid Mubarak' have been installed at important traffic islands and light posts in Dhaka city.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels will air special programmes and newspapers have published supplements on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
