Ershad’s first namaz-e-janaza held, burial on Tuesday

The first namaz-e-janaza of Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad was held in the city after Zohr prayers on Sunday, reports UNB.

The janaza took place at the Army Central Mosque around 1:45pm.

Ershad's younger brother and JaPa acting chairman GM Quader, his son Saad Ershad, party secretary general Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Army chief general Aziz Ahmed, ex-army chief Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, current and retired army officers, Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon, JaPa presidium members Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Annisul Islam Mahmud, Kazi Feroz Rashid, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, and Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Md Atiqul Islam, among others, joined the janaza.

Meanwhile, condolence books will be opened at the JaPa chairman's Banani office and the party's Kakrail central office from 15 July to 18 July between 11:00am and 4:00pm, said party chairman's press and political secretary Sunil Shuvo Roy.

Ershad, a former military strongman and five-time MP, breathed his last at 7:45am while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at the age of 89.

The opposition leader's second janaza will be held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad at 10:30am on Monday.

Later, his body will be taken to the party's central office at Kakrail to allow JaPa leaders and activists to pay their last respects. After Asr prayers, another janaza will be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

His body will be kept at the CMH mortuary. It will be flown to his home district Rangpur on Tuesday where his fourth janaza will be held after Zohr prayers at the zilla school grounds. He will be laid to rest at the Military Graveyard in Banani the same day.

Ershad's Qulkhwani will be held on Wednesday at Gulshan's Azad mosque.
