Ex-BNP MP among 77 sued

A case has been filed against 77 leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, including former BNP MP Habibul Islam Habib, in connection with planning sabotage and explosion of crude bomb.

Satkhira sadar police station sub-inspector Kabir Hossain filed the case under the Explosive Substances Act on Friday night, reports UNB.

Satkhira district BNP unit president Rahmatullah Palash and general secretary Tariqul Hasan also are made accused in the case.

Satkhira sadar police station officer-in-charge Mostafizur Rahman said that around 80 leaders and activists of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami gathered in the house of Tariqul in Pransayer Khal area in the afternoon for planning sabotage.

When police went there, the BNP men blasted crude bombs towards police, claimed the OC.

Later, police charged baton to disperse them, he added.

Police arrested three people -- Maulana Obaidullah, sadar upazila’s Bhomra union unit Jamaat president Hafizur Rahman and Mohammad Ali -- from the spot, the OC added.

Meanwhile, BNP district unit president Palash, who has been made an accused in the case, said that he has been staying in Dhaka since before the Eid-ul Azha.
