War criminal Ghulam Azam's family received his body from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday morning.

Ghulam Azam's personal secretary Abul Kalam Azam said that the body was handed over to his son Abdullahil Aman Azmi at about 7:40am.

His body has been kept in an air-conditioned van, used for carrying dead bodies, at his Moghbazar residence.

Ghulam Azam's lawyer Tajul Islam said the body would be kept there until further decisions are not taken by his family members.
Ghulam Azam's son Abdullahil Amaan Azmi told reporters that five out their six brothers live abroad and it would take two days to decide about the burial schedule.

He, however, said his father will be buried at their family graveyard at Moghbazar.

Ghulam Azam, aged 92, died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital at about 10:10pm on Thursday, while serving jail sentences for committing crimes against humanity during Liberation War in 1971.

International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 awarded the former Jamaat-e-Islami amir with 90 years of imprisonment for war crimes.
The tribunal said that though his crimes are worthy of death penalty but considering his age and physical condition, he was given the prison sentence.
