It’s never too late to enter politics. Wahid Sadik, husband of famous film actress Shabana, is going to prove that as he wants to contest the Jashore-6 constituency (Keshabpur) on Awami League ticket.

He has already started public relations in the area and is waiting for the green signal from prime minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of the ruling BAngladesh Awami League.

Shabana, 67, the National Film Award-winning actress, along with her husband took part in a rally at Borenga village of Keshabpur upazila of Jashore on Tuesday.

Addressing the rally, Shabana said, “Prime minister Sheikh Hasina had previously asked me to be a candidate for Awami League but I want to spend my time with my children.”

“Keshabpur is the area of my in-laws. If anyone is to be candidate from here the person should be my husband. I’m seeking your support for him,” she said.

Wahid Sadik said Keshabpur is his birthplace and he always feels the urge to do something for its development. “So, I’m seeking your opinions. I’ll start the campaign for getting the nomination if you support me,” he said addressing the gathering.

The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Awami League MP and former state minister for public administration Ismat Ara Sadique.

She died on 21 January.
