HC asks BSTI to test pasteurised milk at four laboratories

The High Court has asked the authorities of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) to test pasteurised milk of all authorised companies in laboratories of four organisations.

The HC also asked the authorities to submit a report in this regard within a week.

The apex court came up with the move following laboratory research on the pasteurised milk by a Dhaka University’s institution that found antibiotics and the presence of many harmful elements in the milk.

The prescribed organisations are International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr’b, Livestock and Research Institute, Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) and National Food Safety Laboratory.

An HC bench comprising justice Syed Refat Ahmed and justice Md Iqbal Kabir handed down the order.

The HC also directed the authorities of the four institutions to file separate report over their laboratory findings.

Tanvir Ahmed stood in favour of the writ petition while MR Hasan for BSTI.
