HC rule on Lakshmipur 4 election

The High Court on Tuesday asked the authorities concerned to explain why the results of the 10th parliamentary polls in Lakshmipur 4 constituency would not be declared illegal.
A high court bench of Justice Shaumendra Sarkar on Tuesday issued the rule after holding an hearing.
The bench asked seven defendants, including the election commission, district returning officer, Ramgati and Kamalnagar upzila deputy returning officers, were asked to reply with in three weeks.
The 10th national election was held on 5 January and the notification came out on 8 January. In the notification, Awami League candidate Mohammad Abdullah was declared the lawmaker of Lakshmipur 4 constituency.
Azad Uddin Choudhury, independent candidate of Lakshmipur 4, on 7 February appealed to the court for a decision claiming the poll "undisciplined".
Senior lawyer Md Abdur Rab Chowdhury conducted the hearing for Azad Uddin Ahmed.
Abdur Rab Chowdhury told Prothom Alo that 90% voters in support of Azad Uddin Ahmed were forced to leave the polling centres.
