HC stays trial proceedings of Mainul’s case

The High Court on Sunday stayed for six months the trial proceedings of a case filed against Mainul Hosein under the Digital Security Act for defaming journalist Masuda Bhatti during a TV talk show.

An HC bench of justice Md Rezaul Haque and justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order.

Khandakar Mahbub Hossain stood for Mainul while deputy attorney general Khurshid Alam represented the state.

On 18 December last, Mainul secured bail from the HC in the case.
On 24 October, Awami League member Sumona Aktar filed the case with the cyber tribunal in Dhaka when it asked the Gulshan police station to investigate the complaint.

According to the case statement, Mainul who was connected to a talk show programme through videoconferencing aired on private TV channel Ekattor TV made 'offensive comments' against journalist Masuda Bhatti on 16 October last.
