Hasina, Obama exchange greetings
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina exchanged greetings with US President Barack Obama. During a meeting between the two leaders on Tuesday evening at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel, they appreciated each other's speeches at the UN Climate Summit.
World leaders have gathered in New York to attend the 69th session of the UN General Assembly. Yesterday, Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina spoke at the meeting on global education. On 27 September she is to address the US General Assembly.
During her stay in New York, Sheikh Hasina will meet with the heads of state and government of various countries including India, Nepal, Chile and Qatar.
President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama hosted a dinner in honour of the heads of state and government on Tuesday. Obama and Hasina exchanged greetings there. Prime Minister Hasina also exchanged greetings with the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and other world leaders.
The Prime Minister's information advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, accompanying her on the trip, informed the media about these exchanges after the dinner. He said that after exchanging greetings, Sheikh Hasina praised President Obama for his speech at the climate summit. In response, Obama also praised Hasina for her speech on global environment and climate change. President Obama also addressed Hasina's son Sajib Wazed Joy, who was attending the dinner, commending him on his appearance.
