Humans, Yaba trafficked on same trawler

The very trawlers which are used for human trafficking from Cox’s Bazar, used to return with Yaba from Myanmar as a large section of Yaba peddlers are now involved in illegal migration of people.
Also the same persons were found to have been involved in both human trafficking and Yaba peddling, according to the lists prepared by the home ministry.
And local sources said, Sita Pahar, a hill located in Bangladesh-Myanmar bordering area, is being used as the main route for both human trafficking and smuggling of drugs.
These correspondents collected these pieces of information talking to the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Coast Guard, locals and people who fell victim of trafficking.
Captain of 42 BGB Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Abu Jar Al Jahid told Prothom Alo, “The same trawlers are used in both human trafficking and Yaba peddling.”
“Against this backdrop, the trawlers and the fishermen should be given the identity number and card,” he said.
Coast Guard’s Chittagong East Zone commander Lieutenant Commander Durul Huda echoed the BGB 42 battalion captain.
