'I offered double amount to RAB'

Narayanganj City Corporation councillor Nazrul Islam's father-in-law Shahidul Islam demanded that the bank accounts of the three personnel of RAB 11 should be checked.

Shahidul told Prothom Alo on Tuesday that he offered double amount of money to RAB 11 commanding officer (CO) in exchange for getting back his son-in-law Nazrul.

Earlier, on Sunday Shahidul Islam alias Shahid chairman accused three officials of RAB 11 for carrying out the murder and abduction of Nazrul Islam and his companions in exchange for Tk 6 crore.

Shahid in an interview with Prothom Alo on Tuesday brought the same allegation.

Prothom Alo: You are insisting several times that RAB was paid for the murder. How do you know it for sure? 

Shahidul: If you don't believe me you can check the bank account of commanding officer (CO) colonel Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, lieutenant commander M M Rana and major Arif Hossain and their wives.

Prothom Alo: Who gave this money to RAB?

Sahidul: Nur Hossain, Yasin, Hasmat Ali Hasu, ward commissioner Shahjalal Badal Shahjahan and Hassan transferred money from different bank accounts to the RAB officials' accounts for killing Nazrul.

Prothom Alo: When did you come to know it for the first time?
Shahidul: Nazrul was abducted on 27 April. A few days ago, Hasmat Ali Hasu's friend Jasim told me in a phone call that Nur Hossain and others planned to abduct Nazrul by paying RAB Tk 6 crore.

Prothom Alo: What did you do after getting this call?
Shahidul: I met Hasu immediately after the call. I requested him not to kill my son-in-law. He assured me that my daughter is also his daughter, but he lied. He killed my son-in-law.

Prothom Alo: After the abduction of Nazrul how did you say it with confidence that RAB did it?
Shahidul: When we were looking for Nazrul, a man told me Nazrul was taken away by RAB from the Shibu Market area. As we went to the spot, some labourers told us that a microbus inscribed RAB 11 was standing there. RAB took away some people from two private cars at about 1:00pm.

Prothom Alo: What did you do after that?
Shahidul: I went to meet lawmaker Shamim Osman. He suggested me to meet RAB 11 CO Tareque Sayeed at Adamzi in Shiddhirganj. Some RAB personnel interrogated me for hours as I went there in the afternoon. The RAB CO asked us to meet with him at about 9:00pm. He wanted to know whether we had any conflict with Shamim Osman. Then he told us to meet Shamim Osman. At that moment I humbly begged to RAB CO to save my son-in-law. I offered him to pay double amount of money that Nur Hossain gave, but he did not response to my offer. He again asked me to meet Shamim Osman.

Prothom Alo: Are you feeling insecure right now?
Shahidul: Several text messages from unidentified numbers are threatening me. I have reported to the police super. Police is providing security for me.

Prothom Alo: What did you want now?
Shahidul: I want those who killed Nazrul must be hanged. I don't want to see this type of incidents.

In response to this allegation of Shahidul Islam, RAB legal and media wing director commander ATM Habirbur Rahman told Prothom Alo that Nazrul's father-in-law's allegations are contradictory. But the probe committee formed by RAB will inspect the issue.
