Narayanganj City Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy on Monday said godfathers were involved in the Narayanganj seven-murder incident.

"People of the country know who are the godfathers of Narayanganj", Ivy told reporters after the seven-member inquiry committee formed by the government to investigate the seven- murder case interrogated her over the gruesome murders.

The committee chief, Shahjahan Ali Mollah, additional secretary of Public Administration Ministry, interrogated Mayor Ivy from 10:45 am to 12:15 pm at the Secretariat.

She also said that she did not mention the name of Osman family during interrogation over the killing.

Replying to a question, Ivy said she only replied to what the inquiry committee wanted to know from her.

Answering another question, she said the main accused of the sensational murders Nur Hossain should be brought back home from Kolkata to know the facts of the seven murders.

Inquiry committee chief Shahjahan Mollah informed newsmen that they have taken a statement from Selina Hayat Ivy about the seven murders.

Replying to a query, Shahjahan Mollah said the inquiry is progressing well.

Local MP of Narayanganj Shamim Osman will be quizzed at 11:00am on Tuesday at the same place, he said.

Earlier, on July 17, Colonel Ziaul Ahsan, Additional Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), was questioned for four hours. Journalists that day asked the inquiry committee head if Shamim Osman would be questioned regarding the Narayanganj killings. He replied, "You will know in due time." The committee had spoken to about 350 persons so far.

On April 27 this year, seven persons were abducted from the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road. The abducted persons included Narayanganj City Corporation councillor and panel mayor Nazrul Islam, senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar and others. Their dead bodies later buoyed up on the river Sitalakkhya, six on April 30, and one on May 1. At the behest of the High Court, a seven-member inquiry committee was formed on May 7, headed by Shahjahan Ali Mollah, to look into the matter.

Nazrul Islam's father-in-law Shahidul Islam alleged that RAB took Tk 6 crore from another councillor, Nur Hossain, and picked those seven up and killed them.

Three former officers of RAB-11, Lt. Col. (retd) Tareq Sayeed Mohammed, Maj. (retd) Arifur Rahman and Lt. Commander MM Rana, were dismissed and arrested in this regard. All three of them gave confessional statements in court and are now in jail. Nur Hossain has been arrested in India.
