Joseph sentence to be commuted?

Family members of listed top terror Tofail Ahmed Joseph have started lobbying to have his life sentence commuted.
Jail sources said Joseph’s mother Renuja Begum applied to commute Joseph’s sentence on 7 June. The home ministry is processing the papers at a fast pace so that it could be placed at the Prime Minister’s Office in no time.
Talking to Prothom Alo, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kama said, “We have received an application to have Joseph’s sentence commuted. We’ll take suggestion from the law ministry in this regard. Then it will be sent to the president after taking approval from the Prime Minister’s Office.”
“Anyone can seek President’s pardon. We’ll send the application to the president in due process. He will take the decision,” he added.
Joseph is presently under treatment at the prison cell of Bangabadhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
In December last year, the Supreme Court commuted the death sentence of Tofayel Ahmed Joseph, one of the top-listed terrorists of the 1990s.
Joseph was sentenced to death in the murder case of businessman Mostafizur Rahman, who was killed on 7 May, 1996.
