Khaleda offers munajat for language martyrs
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday joined a prayer session at her Gulshan office seeking divine blessing for the departed soul of the martyrs of the Language Movement of 1952.
She refrained from going to central Shaheed Minar to pay homage to the language martyrs, as the BNP-led 20-party alliance has continued a non-stop blockade since 6 January and she has been staying at the office since 3 January.
A special prayer for eternal peace of the language martyrs was arranged at the Gulshan office after Asr prayers on the day.
The BNP chief's press wing member Shairul Kabir Khan told Prothom Alo that Maulana Mahmudul Hasan conducted the prayer session.
Khaleda Zia took part in the prayer on the first floor of the office building.
BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, vice chairman Selima Rahman, Khaleda Zia's press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan and other leaders and her staff at the office also joined the prayer session.
Some party men could not attend the prayer as the police put barricade at the two ends of the road and restricted the entry, alleged Shairul Kabir.
Earlier in the morning, a BNP delegation, led by the chairperson's adviser Enam Ahmed Choudhury, paid respect to the martyrs, placing a wreath at the central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.
