Legendary songwriter Govinda Halder passes away

Govinda Halder, the legendary songwriter whose songs inspired the freedom fighters during the War of Liberation in 1971, passed away at a Kolkata hospital on Saturday.

He was at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Jitendra Nath Roy Hospital where he was admitted on 13 December for kidney complications.

Govinda, who died at the age of 85, is the writer of a number of celebrated songs like 'Mora Ekti Ful Ke Bachabo Bole Juddho Kori', 'Ek Sagor E Rokter Binimoye Banglar Swadhinata Anlo Jara', 'Purbo Digonte Surjo Utheche, Rokto Lal Rokto Lal', and 'Padma Meghna Jamuna, Tomar Amar Thikana'.
