Man survives fight against tiger
Masum Hawladar, the 30-year-old survivor and resident of Uttar Rajapur village in Bagerhat was admitted to Sharankhola upazila health complex Wednesday.
Masum’s brother Zahidul Hawladar said he and Masum went to fish in Shela river by a boat inside the Sundarbans around 9:00am.
The tiger swooped on Masum taking his right arm into its mouth and dragged him into the woods.
Zahidul along with four fishermen then chased the tiger. At one stage, the tiger drove him.
Zahid said he hit the tiger with a stick, forcing it to flee from the scene.
The fishermen later took him to Sharankhola Health Complex where on duty physician Ripan Nath said Masum’s injury could have been fatal but wasn’t. He is out of danger.
According to DFO Md Mahamudul Hasan of Sundarbans East Division, the tigers claimed 35 lives between 2001 and 2018 in the forest.
