Maruf Kamal’s wife dies in fire
Tania Khan, wife of BNP chairperson’s press secretary Maruf Kamal, died of burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday. A case of unnatural death has been filed with the Adabor police station.
On 13 June 2014 Tania Khan had filed a case with the Mohammedpur police station against her husband, accusing him of mentally and physically torturing her. She even said he had beaten her with an iron rod.
Resident surgeon of Dhaka Medical College’s burn and plastic surgery unit Hossain Imam told Prothom Alo that Tania Khan came to the hospital at 2:30 Thursday night (13 April) with 75 per cent burn wounds. The family said she was burnt in a gas cylinder explosion. She died on Friday (14 April) at the high dependency unit.
Another source of the burn unit said, Tania Khan used BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s advisor AZM Zahid Hossain as reference when she was admitted to hospital. They did not know she was Maruf Kamal’s wife. Tania was not accorded the attention that would normally be given to a burn victim related to a political personality or a VIP. A girl who accompanied Tania Khan said she had been burnt in kerosene.
An autopsy was carried out on Tania Khan on Saturday (15 April) at the forensic medicine department of Dhaka Medical College.
