Rashed Khan Menon and Fazley Hossain Badsha were elected president and general secretary respectively of the 75-member central committee of the Workers Party of Bangladesh (WBP) on the closing day of the party’s four-day 9th Congress in Rajshahi on Sunday. 

In an instant reaction, they declared to resist communalism, fundamentalism and imperialism in the country. 

Menon, minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, said the newly elected body would play pioneering role in uniting all the pro-liberation forces. Simultaneously, it would take forward Bangladesh to the path of development, he added. 

Badsha, who was elected general secretary of the party for the first time, said: “I shall try my best to free Rajshahi from the curse of communalism and fundamentalism”. 

Earlier, the 75-member committee was elected through voting at Shilpakala Academy where the congress was held. In the afternoon, Rashed Khan Menon declared the new committee at a press conference.
