The body of a four-year-old boy was recovered from a wardrobe in the room of a madrasa teacher in Kaliganj of Gazipur on Wednesday night.

The boy was apparently strangled to death, police suspected.

The body of deceased, Adil, was recovered from the bedroom of assistant teacher, Jonayed Ahmed, of Marash Jamiatul Madrasa and Orphanage. Adil was the son of Mufti Zobayer Ahmed, the head teacher of the madrasa, from Nandail upazila of Mymensingh.

Police arrested two suspects, the assistant teacher Jonayed Ahmed and muazzin of the madrasa Khairul Islam, 25, in this regard.

Adil’s father said, Khairul suspected Jonayed for stealing his mobile phone and complained to the head teacher recently. Mufti Zobayer summoned Jonayed in his office and inquired about it.

According to the additional police superintendent of Kaliganj-Kapasia circle, Pankaj Dutt, Jonayed might have killed Adil to seek revenge against his father.

Adil’s father Mufti Zobayer said, Adil went to play at a nearby playground on Wednesday evening. His family started looking for him as he did not return home for a long time.

The locals, at one point, suspected Jonayed and Khairul. Jonayed later confessed to his part in killing Adil.

Jonayed and Khairul were handed over to police.

Police sent Adil’s body to Shahid Tazuddin Ahmed Medical College for autopsy.

The officer-in-charge of Kaliganj police station AKM Mizanul Haque said, necessary legal procedure regarding the matter is underway.
